Stella and Dean’s Traditional Greek Wedding in Astoria, NY

July 8, 2015

Greek weddings are so much fun to photograph with so many wonderful traditions. This was only my second time photographing a true Greek Orthodox ceremony. A few things that are different is that the groom waits for the bride outside of the church as she makes her way up the sidewalk. They greet one another and the ceremony starts outside and then moves to the entryway. All of this is in Greek so it can been tricky to know just what is happening. The Greek Orthodox church where Stella and Dean got married, Holy Protection Greek Orthodox Church, is really, really small. There are no chairs and holds less than 50 people. Everyone stands for the entire ceremony.

In this church specifically there is only natural light from the windows. There are lots of candles that are lit throughout the ceremony which creates a great romantic and intimate environment. Stella and Dean were so excited to see each other as you can see from the images that they were beaming at the church.

There was so much joy and happiness surrounding them from all their family and friends as well. We were so happy to be a part of such an amazing day for them. We wish you all the best! xo
